This trip was some time in the planning; before this, our longest trip had been three days to Coventry. But, Resolution was ready to go: engine had been serviced, new automatic bilge pump installed, fuel polished, tank full with 40 additional litres in Jerry cans, water tank full, food cupboard heaving. Plenty of wine and cake.
Our itinerary was pulled from Canal Plan, mapping out the sixteen days over 70 detailed pages covering every bridge and aqueduct. I added to that all the water points, diesel pumps, recycling points, Elsan points and shops.
The route went from Bosworth Marina (Bridge 42 on the Ashby) along to the Coventry Canal at Marston Junction, turning left at Hawkesbury Junction onto the Oxford Canal, through Braunston and keep going till we reach Oxford or until we decided to turn back.
We were a bit anxious …. up till now we had avoided locks. Now we were faced with 84!
